Ensuring rights of foster parents to appear in court reviews
Permanency planning for children
Expanding foster parents rights to information about children and their
families
Basic Health Care Plan for foster families
Foster Parent Liability Plan through DSHS
Expansion of the Foster Parent Intervention/Retention Support Team
(FIRST)
Establishment of a Child Welfare Advocacy Coalition (CWAC), made up
of individual
and agencies working together to advocate for children in
the child welfare system.
Annual training conference for foster parents and other out-of-home
care providers and staff.
Membership of over 600 individuals, foster parent support groups and
private agencies.
Forming and maintaining cooperative relationships with public and
private agencies involved in foster car

Foster Parents, FPAWS works to:
Provide Foster Parent Liaison Services
Educate on rights of foster parents
Advocate in the legislature and with Children's
Administration for issues that are important to and for foster parents.
Develop and Support local associations to support individual foster
parents.
Compile legal resources.
For
Children's Administration and private Child Placing
Agencies, FPAWS works to:
Provide coordination between DCFS/DLR and foster parents.
Retain quality foster homes through support of foster families.
Share information and resources.
For Local
Foster Parent Associations and Support Groups, FPAWS works to:
Provide support and technical assistance on starting and maintaining an association
Network local foster parents with a group and with each other.
Create and support a statewide Council of Presidents to provide input
into FPAWS policy and practice which will reflect the needs of foster
families.
